If you don't store your vehicle properly over a long time then many things can go wrong. There are many troubles especially with the new cars. Vehicles are always in good health when you keep them running. There are some safety measures that you can take when you prepare for long term vehicle storage.

  • The first thing that you should keep in mind is to get a suitable location to put up your vehicle which is dryness, dirt and humidity free.
  • Store the vehicle inside where there is no wind.
  • Humidity is considered as one of the major harms to the engine and to interiors or exteriors of a vehicle. If you don't have appropriate locations then try finding one nearby.

An important part of long term storage is cleaning a vehicle. When you clean your car, apply a wax coating prior to storage. To keep the interiors clean is important in long term vehicle storage. Let some air circulate inside the car by leaving a small opening in the windows. If you want to store your car inside for a long time, make it run for sometime so as to get it warmed up before storage. 

Some tips to keep your vehicle clean are:

  • A good option to retain your vehicle when you are going to store it for a long time is to change the fluids like filter, anti-freeze, oil, brake, steering fluids etc.
  • When the car is in the place, you can move away the battery and store it in a dry and cool place.

Covering up the vehicle properly 

Remember to cover your vehicle properly. Use a cover of first-rate quality which must not permit passage for humidity and moisture. A light cotton cover will also work. Remember to fasten the hood and the trunk before covering it up. This is important to avoid rusting inlong term vehicle storage. To prevent the leather in the vehicle from cracking and drying one can apply leather treatment. Make sure that the vehicle is properly locked and that the light in the interior is switched off. One can place some silica gel that soak up moisture in the trunk and interior. Use vinyl conditioner for interiors to avoid dryness. Fill the gas tank, as if you leave it empty the wetness will support rusting. You can also use a gas stabilizer.  

If you follow all these instructions then you will probably find your vehicle in the same condition as you left it.
